For a really long time in my life I felt really poor, like, “oh my god, I don’t know how I’m going to pay my bills,” poor. I was scared to try and make it paycheck to paycheck (especially when I was a server and wasn’t guaranteed anything), and what I said reflected that. While I was a poor college student for a really long time, I discovered that changing the way that I thought about my financial wellness really did change the game. The same happened with my fitness, when I decided to stop hating my body for what it didn’t look like or couldn’t do and started loving it for what it could do it actually started to change for the better.
Add a But Statement
Call on your Tina Belcher and focus on the but(t). When you catch yourself saying or thinking something that doesn’t serve your highest potential and keeps you stuck in a cycle of negativity add a ‘but’ to the end of the statement. With finances if you find yourself saying, “I’m just never going to be able to make enough money to buy ___,” try adding, “but I am abundantly blessed because of what I do have.” If you are being hard on your appearance and say something like, “I hate my thighs,” add, “but they carry my strong quads and hamstrings so I am working to find love for them.” Negativity isn’t inherently bad, it can serve as a red flag or a signpost to let you know when something isn’t working. By listening to what you’re saying to yourself you can figure out what things aren’t going so well right now that you may want to start working on, adding a positive statement on the end helps to support your journey though.

Focus on the Blessings
When I start to feel like I’m not as financially bountiful I focus on the amazing things that I am privileged to have, even when I’m concerned that I won’t have enough money to purchase plane tickets or buy all the types of food that I want to I think about what an amazing thing it is that I have a bed to sleep in, an apartment to come home to, heat and food to eat that heals and nourishes my body, and even clean water to drink. When I start thinking about the gains that I want to make at the gym or wishing I could master a certain yoga pose and begin to feel inferior, I remember the amazing feats that my body can achieve, I can run, dance, stretch, twist, hear, see, WALK! When the negative self talk creeps in you can use your language to change your experience. I like saying, “I am abundantly and bountifully blessed.” or “my body is strong and it carries me through the life I create.” When I start to feel like I’m not as financially bountiful I focus on the amazing things that I am privileged to have, even when I’m concerned that I won’t have enough money to purchase plane tickets or buy all the types of food that I want to I think about what an amazing thing it is that I have a bed to sleep in, an apartment to come home to, heat and food to eat that heals and nourishes my body, and even clean water to drink. Just SAY IT
Even if right in this moment you can’t bench 400 pounds, zip up a pair of size 12s, recite the chemical properties of argon, or finish a novel in 12 hours, just say it. Bring these things into being by manifesting them. “I am” statements are one of the most powerful tools you can put in your toolbox. Even though you don’t feel like you are that thing, say you are so that you put it out there and invite it in. If you’re really not comfortable saying that you are that, say you are becoming that thing. Spend some time each morning in the mirror saying, “I am a strong woman who can bench 400 pounds.” or, “I am able to speed read so that I can have a great conversation at book club.” Invoke your desires with your world and coupled with hard work they will happen.
